They have a grant through the San Francisco Foundation to train ~45 individuals (ex-offenders included) to enter the Careers for Success Program at Merritt College.  We will be sending about 20-25 this fall and the remainder in Spring 2012.  The career paths that students can choose at Merritt College are Green building and Energy, Human/Social Services, Logistics and Transportation, and Medical Assistant.  On June 28th, we will be having an orientation session, and then July 5th-mid August, we will begin instruction to prepare them for Merritt College.  The 1 1/2 month training will specifically expose students to the field of green building (even though later on, students can choose different tracks).  The training will provide a general overview of the field, hands-on construction lessons, basic construction math skills, life skills (how to find a job, conflict management, money management, etc.), and basic english skills.  There will be case managers on-hand to support students along the way.  You can contact ATHEDCO directly or email Roshni!
