Affordable Care Act on People Involved in the
Criminal Justice System Webinar
Hosted by the Criminal Justice/Mental Health Consensus Project
People in the criminal justice system face high rates of communicable and chronic illnesses, as well as mental health and substance use disorders. However, criminal justice practitioners often have difficulty connecting this largely low-income and uninsured population to needed health services. By 2014, under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), many of these individuals will gain access to health insurance coverage. This webinar will provide an overview of the key provisions of the law and what steps practitioners can take now to improve health and public safety outcomes. The presenters will discuss the implications of the ACA on justice-involved populations and share strategies on how criminal justice professionals can help facilitate access to needed health services.
